Burnt Sugar Cake

Ingredients:
3/4cups Sugar
1/2cups Shortening (butter or crisco)
2 Egg Yolks
2tbsp Burnt Sugar (see previous recipe)
2/3tbsp Vanilla
2/3cups Milk
2cups Flour (Swan's Down)
1/2tsp Salt
3tsp Baking Powder
1 Egg White, beaten stiff
 
Instructions:
1.  Cream sugar, shortening and egg yolks.
2.  Add burnt sugar and vanilla.
3.  Mix flour, salt and powder in a separate bowl.
4.  Add milk and dry ingredients to original mixture alternately.
5.  Add stiffened egg white last.
6.  Bake for 30 minutes at 375 degrees.
