| Ingredients: |
| 2 | cups | sifted S.D. cake flour |
| 1 | tsp | soda |
| 3/4 | tsp | salt |
| 1/2 | cups | vegetable shortening |
| 1 1/3 | cups | sugar |
| 2 | | eggs, unbeaten |
| 2 - 3 | | squares(?) Baker's Unsweetened Chocolate, melted |
| 1 | cup | plus 2 tablespoons of milk |
| 1 | tsp | vanilla |

| Instructions: |
| 1. | sift flour once, measure |
| 2. | add soda and salt, sift together 3 times |
| 3. | cream shortening, add sugar gradually, cream together until light and fluff |
| 4. | add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each |
| 5. | add chocolate and blend |
| 6. | add flour alternately with milk, beating well after each addition |
| 7. | add vanilla |
| 8. | bake in 9-inch(?) layers at 350 deg for 30 min |
