Ingredients: |
2 | cups | sifted S.D. cake flour (a) |
2 1/2 | tsp | baking powder (a) |
3/4 | tsp | salt (a) |
1 | cup | sugar (a) |
1/2 | cups | shortening |
3/4 | cups | milk |
1 | tsp | vanilla |
3 | | egg whites (b) |
1/4 | cups | sugar (b) |

Instructions: |
1. | measure into sifter the (a) ingredients |
2. | measure the shortening into mixing bowl |
3. | measure milk and vanilla into cup |
4. | have ready: 3 egg-white meringue (b) |
5. | (b) beat 3 egg whites until foamy |
6. | (b) add 1/4 cup sugar gradually, beating until forms soft peaks |
7. | stir shortening just to soften, sift in dry ingredients (a) |
8. | add milk and vanilla, mix until all flour is dampened |
9. | beat 2 minutes, add meringue mixture and beat 1 min |
10. | bake at 375 deg for 25 min (layers) or 30 min (loaf cake) |
