German Chocolate Cake

Ingredients:
1pkg Baker's German Sweet Chocolate
1/2cups boiling water
1cup butter
2cups sugar
4 egg yolks, unbeaten
1tsp vanilla
1/2tsp salt
1tsp soda
2 1/2cups sifted S.D. cake flour
1cup buttermilk
4 egg whites
 
Instructions:
1.  melt chocolate in boiling water, then cool
2.  cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy
3.  add egg yolks, one at a time, and beat well after each
4.  add melted chocolate and vanilla, mix well
5.  sift together salt, soda, flour
6.  add flour mix alternately with buttermilk to choc mix, beating well
7.  beat egg whites until stiff peaks, fold into batter
8.  bake in three 8-inch or 9-inch cake pans at 350 deg for 35 - 40 min
